Feeding Woody

(download)

Woody's appetite is recovering faster than anything else. He needs to wear a collar so he doesn't pull out his sutures. Also, a tube through his nose into his stomach (earlier to feed him) ensures he gets his medication daily. Anyone who has tried to get a cat to take a pill understands this. With all of this paraphernalia, eating dinner isn't easy. But I am ready to help the little bugger.

Two more days of this routine and then he gets everything removed on Saturday morning at the vet. He have a bottle of Krug chilling for a celebration that evening.

When news becomes advertising

This weekend I read an article in the Weekend Journal section of the Asia Wall Street Journal. A short article about men's skin care during cold weather, focusing on the personal skin care regiment of the founder and president of (you guessed it) a men's skin care product company. I read the article with interest in the hopes of learning some new insight into skin care. Instead, it was a subtle but obvious promotion of his own products. It's probably not a bad thing if more men learn to care for their skin but it reminded me of something Dan Rather said... "News is what somebody somewhere doesn't want you to know. All the rest is advertising.".

Woody on the recovery

I stopped by the clinic this evening en route home to see Woody. He had surgery yesterday afternoon so I expected he would be flat on his back and 'out to lunch'. But much to my surprise he was alert, responsive and eager to see me. Even the doctor (and the rest of the staff) are encouraged by his rapid recovery.

He'll need to stay another few days for observation but he should be home on Sunday.

Woody's okay!

Woody went under the knife this afternoon and this evening we got a call from the doctor about the operation. He explained how pleased and surprised he was to discover the dark spots inside his gall bladder were only blood clots. He said it was a first in his career to be fooled by both an x-ray and a CT scan. He apologized profusely for causing us undue concern about the possibility of cancer. Woody will recover at the clinic until the weekend and then come home. We are planning a big homecoming celebration for him.

There is an immense sense of relief at our home tonight.

Shibuya Dog

As I was walking through Shibuya this afternoon, my eye caught this dog leashed to a light post that seemed to nonchalant to the hustle of the sidewalks around him. I was fortunate enough to be able to grab my camera, kneel down and take a quick portrait when the surrounding sidewalk was relatively free of pedestrians. It all happened in less than ten seconds.
